An interview with … Ivy Logan

broken

This morning, I’m talking to Ivy Logan, a self-published author, about writing, sofas, and the importance of pen and paper.

Tell us a little about your new novel?

Broken is the story of a sorceress, Talia, whose powers have been concealed from her and she has been raised as a human and trained as a warrior. Her life is beset with challenges –a doomed ancient prophecy, losing her family and being on the run, chased by a king for powers she doesn’t have.  Alone, but determined to fight back, she is obsessed by vengeance. Love gives her the courage to stand tall and literally face a dragon. Broken is her journey.

Where did your inspiration for this novel come from?

Broken started as a  slightly different story but evolved as I wrote. I have always been a great believer in magic and love. Broken is a reflection of that thought process.

Where do you write?

On a fat comfy sofa. A desk is too formal and uncomfortable for me. Left it behind with the corporate world.

Pen or keyboard?

My lap top but the story initially started off on paper. Paper is the best place for ideation. I think it frees creativity. A device tends to lend an element of control for me. It blocks free fall thinking which is important and vital in the initial stages of a book.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

A long, long time ago. Took my own sweet time getting to it though. Started the process two years ago.

What is the best part of being an author?

Finally doing what I love and what I am passionate about . Discovering a side to me which I never knew. The thing is being a writer is so much more than writing. You have to be ready to dig in and get your hands dirty . Pride and the words ‘No Can Do’ have to be cast aside .

Another beautiful thing is  the amazing friends I’ve made.

And the worst?

Having to do so much yourself from social media promotions to the writing. It can be quite a strain.

Who are your writing heroes?

Too many to count . From the classics with Charlotte Bronte, Enid Blyton to J K Rowling with Lee Child and Mary Higgins Clark  and Jeffery Archer. outlander

If you had to be stranded on a desert island with three fictional characters, who would you choose, and why?

Jamie from Outlander. He is my 1.2 and 3.

What’s next?

Focusing on completing book II Metamorphosis. And the genesis for Book III is also already  there.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer these questions, Ivy!
